Perle Urbaine: A Column On Luis Levonche

Fall / Winter • Perle Urbaine • MM Productions

Luis Levonche is a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago, where he earned his degree in Product Development. His Fall / Winter collection, Perle Urbaine, is his first major runway outing and sets out a clear point of view: beauty, sensuality, and aging are the core subjects.

The Designer

Levonche’s background is technical as much as creative. Product development training shows in his focus on structure, fit, and how clothes function on real bodies.

With Perle Urbaine, he applies that discipline to an emotional brief, but keeps the message direct and legible.

The Collection Story

The collection is about beauty and sensuality as time ages us. It looks at what it means to exist and feel in a body that changes, without framing that change as loss.

The central idea:

This collection explores the profound beauty found in the passage of time, celebrating aging not as a decline, but as a process of refinement and quiet strength.

To ground that, Levonche uses a clear parallel: the way pearls are formed.

Pearls start as something small and ordinary in a dark place.

Over time, layers build under pressure.

The result is something valued and protected.

Perle Urbaine applies the same lens to people: aging as accumulation, layering, and strengthening, not erasure.

From Concept To Clothes

The pearl concept is not only language; it guides how the collection is built.

  • Mood: calm, intimate, focused on the wearer rather than the room.
  • Silhouettes: body-conscious but not tight; form-following with movement.
  • Fabrics: silk, satin, linen and similar materials that record light and motion clearly.
  • Details: pearls and refined surface work used as structural storytelling, not excess decoration.

The clothes are designed to read as sensual, considered, and long-wearing, in line with the idea of refinement over time.

Why It Matters

For a first collection, Perle Urbaine does three concrete things:

  • Establishes Levonche as a designer willing to treat aging as a central subject, not a side note.
  • Shows he can connect concept and construction in a straightforward, trackable way.
  • Introduces a clear aesthetic: urban, precise, and centered on how clothes live on the body over years, not just in a single season.

Absolutely Beautiful Show Luis- I have not seen a creative director with such passion in recent years. It is Truly great to see you starting strong.
